The flagship engagement

The Market Rebuild

A focused engagement applying The Market Rebuild Method to how an established service, technical, or product company is understood, trusted, presented, and chosen.

Built for Established contractors, property-service companies, industrial and technical firms, automotive businesses, and specialized equipment companies.

A new website cannot solve an unresolved commercial position.

Redesigning without fixing the customer, service hierarchy, differentiation, proof, message, and inquiry journey gives the same unclear business a more attractive surface.

The surface request

“We need a new website.”

  • Outdated design
  • Weak mobile experience
  • Generic copy
  • Unclear service pages
The deeper intervention

Rebuild how the business enters the market.

  • Choose the position
  • Prioritize the right work
  • Organize the proof
  • Build the customer journey

The proprietary methodology

Five connected systems.

Each stage produces decisions the next stage must express, moving from business reality to market recognition and commercial action.

01

Substance Extraction

Customer, service, economic, proof, and market-gap investigation.

02

Market Position

Priority customer, value proposition, differentiation, service hierarchy, and narrative.

03

Proof Architecture

Projects, reviews, standards, process, objection handling, and reasons to believe.

04

Signal System

Messaging, copy, identity, practical brand guidelines, digital expression, and responsive website.

05

Commercial Activation

Launch-ready applications, qualification, inquiry routing, analytics, launch, and 30-day stabilization.

A complete engagement with clearly defined responsibilities.

One company, one governing market position, agreed commercial priorities, and one accountable decision-maker.

A usable operating system, not a logo handoff

The new market position becomes a coherent identity and commercial toolkit.

The Market Rebuild includes the strategic and visual system required to express the company consistently across its website, sales environment, and launch-critical touchpoints.

01 / BRAND FOUNDATION

What the brand must mean and communicate.

The strategic foundation gives the identity direction before visual decisions are made.

  • Market position and priority audience
  • Core proposition and message hierarchy
  • Brand character and voice principles
  • Proof themes and reasons to believe
02 / IDENTITY SYSTEM

A visual language built around the position.

The existing identity is evaluated honestly. It is retained, refined, or redesigned according to what the company and market position require.

  • Primary and secondary logo configurations
  • Colour and typography systems
  • Graphic devices, layout, and icon direction
  • Photography and image-direction principles
03 / PRACTICAL GUIDELINES

Enough structure for the system to remain coherent.

The client receives practical rules and files that internal teams, developers, designers, and production partners can use.

  • Logo and spacing rules
  • Colour, type, layout, and accessibility guidance
  • Digital and print usage examples
  • Organized logo and brand-file exports
04 / LAUNCH-READY APPLICATIONS

The assets required to activate the new system.

An agreed set is selected during strategy according to the company’s real commercial environment rather than a generic package checklist.

  • Business card, email signature, and social profiles
  • Capabilities sheet, proposal cover, or project template
  • Product, fleet, distributor, or service materials
  • Other priority applications required for launch

Separately scoped when required

Additional Commercial Activation

Larger deployment work can extend the approved brand system across a wider sales, product, campaign, or operational ecosystem without turning the initial Market Rebuild into an unlimited production engagement.

01Capabilities brochures and sales presentations
02Proposal, tender, and case-study systems
03Product sheets, catalogues, and distributor materials
04Social campaign and content-template systems
05Signage, vehicles, trade shows, and packaging
06Photography, video, printing, fabrication, and production

Northline shows what changes when the system beneath the website is rebuilt.

The transformation moves through position, service hierarchy, proof, brand expression, customer journey, and inquiry.

BEFORENorthline before website
AFTERNorthline after website

A better-looking version of the same story would not have been enough.

The company needed a priority customer, a valuable operating condition, a service hierarchy, a proof model, an ownable mechanism, and distinct inquiry paths.

Explore the Northline transformation

The work produces commercial decisions and operating artifacts, not only a redesigned surface.

Until real client outcomes can be shown, the clearest proof is the structure and quality of the thinking carried into the engagement.

01

Market Position Brief

The priority buyer, work, territory, distinction, commercial stakes, and governing position.

02

Service or Product Hierarchy

What leads, what supports, how markets or audiences separate, and how the offer should be understood.

03

Proof Architecture

Projects, standards, systems, evidence, outcomes, testimonials, and trust-transfer assets.

04

Message Architecture

The core proposition, buyer questions, page logic, service language, and decision-supporting copy.

05

Brand System + Guidelines

The identity logic, logo system, typography, colour, graphic language, usage rules, exports, and agreed launch applications.

06

Inquiry Architecture

Qualification, routing, calls to action, forms, measurement, and the path from interest to conversation.

A controlled sequence from investigation to stabilization.

Timing varies with scope, access, content readiness, and decision speed.

LAUNCH + 30 DAYS

Activate

QA, analytics, routing, launch, baseline measurement, and stabilization.

Market Stewardship

Keep the market system aligned as the business changes.

Market Stewardship is an optional monthly or quarterly continuation for systems Substance & Signal has built or actively governs. It begins after the initial 30-day stabilization period and is scoped around current commercial priorities.

01

Performance and inquiry review

Review analytics, calls to action, form behaviour, inquiry quality, friction, and what the market is responding to.

02

Proof, content, and sales assets

Add project logs, case studies, testimonials, technical resources, product evidence, capability sheets, and new reasons to believe.

03

Market and offer evolution

Support new services, products, locations, buyer groups, campaigns, sales materials, or changes in commercial direction.

04

Brand, collateral, and digital governance

Protect consistency, add focused pages or applications, review supplier work, and coordinate specialists when deeper production is required.

Market Stewardship governs and selectively extends the approved system. It does not include unlimited production, full-service marketing management, paid media, large website expansions, or third-party specialist costs. Those needs are scoped separately.

The quality of the rebuild depends on access to the real business.

The engagement protects the client’s time, but it cannot be built from surface-level information.

01

Leadership access

Direct access to the people who understand customers, economics, and direction.

02

Business information

Services, customers, projects, inquiry patterns, and operational context.

03

Existing proof

Projects, reviews, certifications, photographs, standards, and processes.

04

One decision-maker

A single accountable person who consolidates feedback and protects coherent decisions.

05

Timely decisions

Position, message, creative direction, design, and launch choices made within the process.

06

Operational honesty

Clear acknowledgement of what the company can genuinely promise, prove, and fulfil.

Before deciding whether the engagement is appropriate.

The Market Position Review determines whether the full intervention is justified.

Can we keep our current logo?

Yes, when the identity can support the desired market position. The logo is evaluated rather than automatically replaced. Refinement or redesign is recommended only when commercially justified.

Do we receive brand guidelines and files?

Yes. The Market Rebuild includes practical brand guidelines and organized logo and identity exports so internal teams and future suppliers can use the system consistently.

Which brand applications are included?

An agreed launch-ready set is selected during strategy according to the company’s commercial needs. It may include business cards, email signatures, social profiles, a capabilities sheet, proposal cover, project template, product sheet, or another priority application.

What is scoped separately?

Large collateral families, catalogues, campaign systems, signage, vehicle graphics, trade-show systems, packaging, photography, video, printing, fabrication, paid media, ongoing SEO, ecommerce, custom software, and complex integrations are scoped separately when required.

Who performs the work?

Michael leads investigation, positioning, messaging, copywriting, and creative direction. Specialists enter when execution requires additional development, photography, production, SEO, analytics, or technical expertise.

Can you work with our existing developer or team?

Yes, when roles, standards, ownership, access, and decision-making are clear. Responsibility for implementation is defined before work begins.

How are payments structured?

Fifty percent reserves the engagement and begins strategic work. The remaining fifty percent becomes due at Production Authorization, after the governing strategy, website architecture, messaging direction, and creative system have been reviewed and approved. Full production proceeds after the second payment.

What happens after launch?

The engagement includes 30-day stabilization for quality assurance, analytics, form and inquiry routing, launch monitoring, minor corrections, and baseline refinement. Market Stewardship is the optional continuation after that period.

What if a full Market Rebuild is not justified?

The Market Position Review does not assume that a rebuild is necessary. If the company would be better served by a specialist, a strategic advisory engagement, a smaller correction, or no immediate intervention, that will be recommended instead.

What does the Delivery Assurance guarantee?

It guarantees milestone approval before full production, written authorization before additional fees, delivery of the agreed handoff, and correction of implementation defects within the approved scope during the 30-day stabilization period. It does not guarantee leads, revenue, traffic, rankings, or outcomes outside Substance & Signal’s control.

The Market Rebuild Delivery Assurance

Approved before production. Complete before handoff. Supported after launch.

The assurance applies to the decisions, deliverables, scope control, implementation quality, and post-launch correction that Substance & Signal can directly govern.

01 / MILESTONE APPROVAL

Direction is approved before full production.

The governing market position, information architecture, messaging direction, and creative system are reviewed before the engagement moves into full production.

02 / SCOPE PROTECTION

No unapproved additions or surprise fees.

Work beyond the approved scope is identified, presented, and authorized in writing before additional professional fees are incurred.

03 / COMPLETE HANDOFF

The agreed system is delivered as promised.

At completion, the client receives the agreed website, identity system, practical guidelines, exported files, and launch-ready applications.

04 / 30-DAY CORRECTION

Implementation defects are corrected after launch.

Any implementation defect within the approved scope identified during the 30-day stabilization period is corrected at no additional professional fee.

Payment structure

50% to begin. 50% at Production Authorization.

The second payment is not due at signing. It becomes due only after the governing strategic, architectural, messaging, and creative decisions have been reviewed and approved.

01 / ENGAGEMENT BEGINS 50% to begin

Reserves the engagement and begins investigation, positioning, proof architecture, service or product hierarchy, messaging, information architecture, and creative direction.

02 / PRODUCTION AUTHORIZATION 50% before full production

Due after approval of the governing strategy, website architecture, messaging direction, and creative system. Full production, development, launch preparation, and final asset completion proceed after payment.

The Delivery Assurance does not guarantee leads, revenue, search rankings, traffic, or subjective satisfaction. It covers the approved process and deliverables Substance & Signal controls. New scope, changed strategic direction, third-party outages, hosting failures, and modifications made by the client or another supplier are not implementation defects.

Founding Market Rebuild engagements typically range from CAD $8,000 to $12,000.

Payment is structured 50% to begin and 50% at Production Authorization. Final investment depends on commercial complexity, content readiness, technical requirements, and production needs. Multi-brand architecture, large collateral families, photography, video, printing, fabrication, ecommerce, custom software, and complex integrations are scoped separately.

Right-sized recommendationThe Market Position Review does not assume that a rebuild is necessary. If the business would be better served by a specialist, strategic advisory, a smaller correction, or no immediate intervention, I will recommend that instead.
